What started off nearly 15 years ago as a childhood love for the film Jurassic Park and a few glass tanks housing banded geckos, evolved into a lasting love for a hobby that is booming in popularity. A hobby that will bring endless joy, constantly challenge your mind and make you truly appreciate nature, in ways that you wouldn’t have imagined.
As a family team, with over 30 combined years of experience in reptile care and upkeep, we are completely dedicated and competent in providing the healthiest, captive bred day geckos, to serious and caring buyers. We have made it our mission to provide captive bred, quality day geckos to reduce the demand of wild caught geckos, allowing wild populations a better chance to make a comeback!
WHY PHELSUMA?
Phelsuma: A large genus of geckos in the family Gekkonidae. Species in the genus Phelsuma are commonly referred to as day geckos.
After housing banded geckos (Coleonyx Variegatus) for several years, we realized that there was only so much you could do with their dry, arid, desert habitats. Don’t get us wrong, we still love and appreciate them and their environment! However, we decided to go back to where our whole idea for housing reptiles started, the film Jurassic Park.
The scenes with dinosaurs walking among the lush, tropical jungle sets really drew us to wanting to create a different ecosystem and habitat; A Rainforest. After doing a great deal of research and after creating our first Bioactive Vivarium (more info on this here Info), we began to wonder what we would house in our mini rainforest.
Due to the fact that we were already familiar with geckos, we decided to search for a tropical day gecko species. We came across the genus Phelsuma and were truly amazed at the diversity among the species. Small, extremely colorful and just as their name implies, active solely during daytime. Their ease of care, size, and tropical temperament, make them ideal inhabitants for any tropical vivarium.
